Windows Vista SP2 Available to Download

Touting performance and security updates, Vista SP2 is now available to download. Windows Update should do the trick, but standalone downloads are hosted right here, and release notes are over here.

I just tried to download and kept getting a “page not found” message. I’ll keep trying to see when it’s actually active or maybe the site it too busy.

Oracle Buys Virtual Iron

I guess when Oracle bought Sun, they had some more money laying around.. they also bought a Xen Hypervisor offshoot based virtualization company called Virtual Iron.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with it, now that Oracle has Sun’s virtual offerings as well as Virtual Iron’s offerings..

vSphere 4, 350,000 IOPS

The folks over at VMware’s performance team have posted an entry detailing how they got 350,000 IOPS at 8K 100% RANDOM I/O from the soon to be released vSphere 4 product.

They also talk about what they had to do with the previous version to get to 100,000 IOPS.
